:: on wendy ::
(read the previous post yeah? smilez. )
she is an acquaintance from my nanyang days.
as it has always been the case wherein you have this acquaintance from a certain past, and upon passing that certain phase you two go on separate ways. on a usual day of buzz you suddenly bump into this certain acquaintance, and incidentally both of you start talking as though you were the best of friends in that certain past. it is a strange phenomena.
but anyway, that was what happened, once. during the forgotten 6mths limbo after the A levels, i had this certain job prospect that required me to attend a seminar first. the seminar turned out to be a company night for awards and recognition of deserving employees. the guy who apparently tricked me into this seminar promised it'll end by 8+ or 9pm. at 1130++ the boss was still going on strong in his "inspiring speech" about a direct sales career in selling health mattresses. i was supremely pissed off and left the room in a huff, explaining in a dignified but condescending way that it took way longer than promised. thereafter i never had any contact with this disgusting company. (which planned to conquer the ASIA market, by the way).
but then soon i bumped into wendy, and incidentally she told me she's working for this disgusting company. i was shocked beyond anything, and asked her how she could stand it all. i am sorry to say i am such a snob, but i truly don't appreciate having a cigarette in my face all the time at work. apparently she's having a lot of fun with the workers. well, to each his own. but i do suspect she's in it for the money, which she never consented to divulge.
anyhow, when i bumped into her AGAIN today, i thought she was shopping. but no, she was holding that detested clipboard of the company doing a "survey". (please, if some people approach you and say they're doing a "survey" on the current job market situation, and proceed to ask you in detail about ur employment situation, and then get your particulars for "consolidating information purposes",
Don't. they'll use all that information to manipulate you into joining their team, after calling u up to set up an "appointment".)
oopz i digressed again. yeah and i asked her, with my most composed face, "you're still with DW Group?!" and she said with all gleefulness "yeah!!!".
me: "you're not going to uni!?!?"
wendy: "i am in uni!"
me: "you're working for this at the same time?!"
wendy: "yeah!!!"
me: "wow... that's really something, to work and study at the same time.."
wendy: "alright lah..."
me: "but how can you do it? isn't sch very hectic already?"
wendy: "why not!!!!!!???? this is flexible what!! i free then i go down to office, i not free then i dun go loh!"
me: *speechless*
ok. for one thing i'm not against work and study at the same time. i truly admire people who do that. it's really really really tough. but, work for something ELSE other than health mattresses can? i mean it's direct sales, and for this company you have a quota to meet every month. the boss will pressure you to prey on your own mother in order to meet that quota. it's a real case which the person herself narrated to everyone during the seminar. it was horrible. i am never going into sales, i cant even imagine balancing my uni with something as malicious as this!
maybe she really needs the money, but, i'm absolutely sure this stupid job takes up more of her time that school does. jeez... i don't know what to say man.
