:: mill on the floss ::

mill on the floss is one of my many current literature texts. it's written by george eliot (who was a woman, mind you. george eliot was just a neccessary pseudonym that mary ann evans assumed because of the narrow sexists MCPs who existed then.)

anyhow, it is a great text! a fantastic read generally. it was initially very boring and the progress was excrutiatingly slow, but after the middle segment things picked up speed. one of the main characters is maggie, and typically like all heroines of novels, some aspects of her didn't fit in the soceity. a fellow module-mate commented extremely vehemently she HATES HATES HATES maggie to the core. says she's an anal bitch who should just go marry tom (her beloved brother, whose affection and approval she's been trying to win through the novel). but the way eliot described their various internal struggles and dilemmas, the way she painted the setting and mood and characters was truly vivid and you can see it all in your mind.

i suspect i'm like maggie. her internal train of thoughts and responses are eeriely similar. and some of her predicaments too, i can relate to. esp the part about her seeing phillip (from the enemy family). i fear that fellow module-mate of mine would not like me very much -- her hatred was very hardcore. *haha* but then again i suspect many people would not like me very much, if they knew me on that deep a level.

*malicious laughter* :P
